Sorcery TCG - Two-Headed Dragon

Version 0 - Retired on August 6, 2024

Philosophy
Two-Headed Dragon is a play on MTG’s  Two-Headed Giant. The goal is to foster even more unique interactions  and give opportunity space for cards that aren’t normally played in 1v1  constructed. 2HD is supposed to be fun, wild, and pushing the limits of  what Sorcery gameplay can be.

While  Dragon teams can be pre-paired, we have found that randomizing dragon  heads and not synergizing decklists between partners actually make for a  better 2HD experience. For a 2HD tournament, it is suggested to start  with random pairings and utilizing Swiss round structure, paired based  on record (some partners actually may have the opportunity to be  opponents in a later round!!).

Once  you’re able to cut to the top two players, they choose anyone from the  player pool to be their partner Dragon head for the Finals. The “winner”  of that Finals match will be the 2HD Champ!

Deck Construction & Card Errata
Follows normal Sorcery deck construction rules of one Avatar and minimum 40 spells and 20 sites. However, the following rules are in effect:

  • Courtesan Thais and Roots of Yggdrasil are banned
  • At the start of the game, a player using Deathspeaker must choose one opponent Dragon’s cemetery to pick spells to cast from
  • Flame Wave can optionally start one column in (from either side)
  • Chaos Twister is played as written, using the birthday candle rule
  • Font of Life can gain a maximum of 10 life

Gameplay & Rules
We'll use these two resources for all rulings. Anything that isn't clear after referencing these will be decided by  the head judge.

  • Sorcery Rulebook
  • Comprehensive Rulebook Clarifications

2HD is played on a 9x4 grid board with each side starting with a 30 life shared pool. Each 2HD pair will take their turn simultaneously,  but do not share mana or threshold.

In addition, the following rules are in effect:

  • You may summon to your partner’s sites as if they were your own once you have connected adjacent sites
  • ‘Ally’ on your cards still means only your units, not your partner's units
  • Body of Water and Span of Land remain the same as defined in 1v1
  • Once a team is on Death’s Door, you must kill each Avatar individually with damage according to the same rules as 1v1; however, the killing blow on one Dragon head will cause that player to no longer draw a card at the start of their turn. Otherwise they play as normal and their sites, units, and spells in hand all function normally.

2HD Card/Rules Watchlist

  • Use and triggered activation of Eggs (due to too much passive gain/dmg)

  • Guarding
  • Orbing
  • Friends of the Club
